Dear Hiring Manager, To Whom It May Concern, Mr. Vernon:

I have learned from the Riot Games website that you are currently seeking a User Experience Designer. I am writing to you in regards to this position because I believe that with my prior work experience, technical skill-set, extensive knowledge of League of Legends, and rugged good looks*, I am just the guy you are looking for.

My love for League of Legends began when I was transitioning from college student to working professional. During this time, my passion for my work and career has grown right alongside my passion for LoL, not only as a game, but as a product and a platform. As a designer I have an affinity for user interfaces; not only the aesthetics but a user’s interaction to reach a desired goal. My ability to design an interface hasn’t been enough for me, I want to build the ideas and tools necessary to solve these complex problems. This self-driven, focused, and passionate work-ethic has given me the opportunity to join and run a number of web development teams. Thanks to these opportunites I have acquired the means to build meaingful products and experiences from prototype through production, and I continue to push myself to learn and grow more everyday. Throughout this process my primary focus has been on user-flow, usability, and unique ideas that challenge the boundaries of user interaction and engagement.

My experience with League of Legends as a product has coincided through all of this. User experience design and League of Legends are both my passion and hobbies and they influence each other immensely. One of my most recent personal projects, Pickbot, demonstrates this perfectly. Pickbot came from an idea I’ve had to enhance the “counter-picking” process in League of Legends by seamlessly suggesting strong picks based on evolving circumstances. I have been hugely grateful for all of the support and feedback I have gotten on the project through Reddit and various outlets, and I’m already working diligently on huge new features and a completely redesigned interface. This project has been the ultimate marriage of my fervor for user experience, development, and LoL. I believe this personal project helps demonstrate why I am the perfect candidate for this position since not only do I have the necessary skill-set, but more importantly I have the passion and dedication to create something I truly love, believe in, and care about.

I have provided my resume below which further details my education and work experience. I would be happy to provide a list of references or any additional information upon request.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
John “Rio” Riordan
